THE WORLD OF RUE BOURDAIN

A lively vibrant street in the heart of Kichijouji, Rue Bourdain is where the best restaurants of the district are lined up, drawing customers with the scent of their fragrant dishes. After the success of his travels in Tokyo, the district of Kichijouji decided to name their dining street as Rue Bourdain after famous cook, Anthony Bourdain. From Japanese to Ethiopian, the district serves up meals that whet one’s appetites and satiates one’s gourmet tongue. Bourdain takes pride that Rue Bourdain is a dining street with no reservations in terms of food.

As glamorous and elegant as it appears, the restaurant industry in Rue Bourdain is a dog eat dog world, where restaurants put their skills to the test: Knives sharpened for the best cut of “meat,” and waiters dressed to perfection to better fool the unwitting customer. Anthony Bourdain is heavily invested in watching these restaurants go neck to neck in becoming the top restaurant of the street. In order to gain reputation and succeed in the world of dining, one has to beat these restaurants in their game, one flawless bullshit at a time.

Rue Bourdain offers you the chance to start your path to fine dining. The question is, are your knives sharp enough to make it to the top?

[info]ruebourdain is a private pan-fandom AU RP that introduces players and characters to the crackpot world of the restaurant biz.

FILTERS, POSTING FORMATS AND OTHER POSTS

Filters are security options that our characters can use to limit viewing of their entries to the specific people of groups of people they choose. We won't make actual filters, though, since the players have to let all the other players see everything. When you make character posts, just indicate if the post is PUBLIC, FILTERED, or PRIVATE, and the rest of the cast will respond accordingly. Filters are useful for menu planning, sharing restaurant-relevant secrets with the staff of the establishment, or for simple gossiping and communication.

PUBLIC posts are open to all the characters, no matter who they are.
FILTERED posts are viewable only to the person included in the filter unless stated otherwise (for example, accidental public posts).
PRIVATE posts are viewable only to the journal owner unless stated otherwise (see above).

Example of a post:

[Public]

Is it the rainy season already?

[Filtered to Yugao]

If I catch any of you pilfering money from the tip box again, I will cut your fingers off with a blunt knife and feed it to the turtle.

[Filtered to Lambo]

I mean it.

This is assuming that each segment is actually a separate post unless indicated otherwise, and that the resulting threads will be screened accordingly. However, to be safe, title your more sensitive comment threads with [Screened] to make sure that the other characters aren't able to see the comments IC. Let's assume that in this version of LJ where all is well and good, comment posters can actually screen their own damn comments.

Please note that your characters can also make voice and video posts, although they will all have to be in text format so you'll have to describe what the viewer can see/hear in the post.

For example:

[Filtered to Kano - Voice]

[a long pause, and then heavy breathing]

I'M COMING TO GET YOU.

You are also free to make non-journal posts using the character's journal, like phone calls and email exchanges. Just indicate it in the title and specify stuff in the OOC, so the other players can stay out of the post. Include text-explanations of sights/sounds if applicable. If it's too complicated, try a log!

Again, log posts (the RP that goes into the comm and are done in prose form) have this format:

CONTACT/PLOT/COMPLAINTS POST

Do you have comments/complaints/reactions with how the game is run? Feel free to air out grievances here. Don't worry, we'll read them carefully unless you're complaining about the game not accepting more people. In that case, shut up soshite die!

Apart from that, feel free to comment here on the plots that you would like to see. Crack or angst, we like them all! Do you have an event that you want to happen? An NPC you want to come? Just say the word!

Entries are screened until they're not.

LOCATIONS

Rue Bourdain
The famous restaurant road in Kichijouji named after the famous chef Anthony Bourdain. This is where the game is set and there’s a line of different restaurants here other than yours.

Sun Road
Sun Road is Kichijouji’s shopping district. It’s two blocks away from Kichijouji. It’s closer to an avenue of malls catering to small intimate clothing shops rather than big retail stores. It’s known for sweet little knick knacks shops. It’s quite popular for bohemian college kids.

Gessoji
The Buddhist temple in Kichijouji.

Red-light district
Just two corners away from Rue Bourdain, the Red Light district has some interesting things to offer for those in need for some sweet time other than what Rue Bourdain has. Expect some shady personalities in this ‘hood. Although you’ll never know when you’ll need the services of these people.

University Belt
Believe it or not, what makes Kichijouji thrive are the universities that surrounds the district. There are over five universities in the area.

Tsukiji
Although far from Kichijouji, this is the heart of Tokyo’s markets, bringing in fresh from the different seas that surround Japan.
